Mar15 March desktop and newish computer

I’ll start from the newish computer. I had tea related accident with my Acer laptop and because the guarantee ended just (day after the final end of my laptop actually) I ended up getting newish computer, which cost 124.90 €. The case is two year old Compaq Evo and was previously a office machine in one electronic store. It had Windows XP Professional (not anymore though) and 40GB hd, 512MB ram and apparently Intel processor. I have to say I know very little about it, but I don’t care as long as it works. And it does. Well I have been planning to get bigger ram and hd. 100€ btw. 24.90€ I spend in new keyboard, Logitech Ultra-Flat, while some of the keys are placed oddly (like “page up” and “page down”), it’s okey. Screen is my boyfriend’s old one it’s 15” and 1024×768 resolution. Fine for me for now.

My desktop

Then to March desktop. I am still using CrunchBang Linux and very happy with it. :)

And as you can see I went back to Wordpress, so it will take some time before everything is in order again.

Mar15 Who’s that?

After joining in Planet CrunchBang, I thought that it might be good idea (and because I don’t have any other ideas in my head at the moment) to tell about this femme here. Those who visit #! forums more less activly may know already that I’m from Finland and that I like green and my name is Hanna. Other than that I’m a radiographer student who will hopefully graduate soon. I guess that’s enough about my personal life.

How did I end up using Linux distro then. Sometimes I joke, I wanted to do something “patriotic” and installing South-African distro felt like good idea. [icon_wink] But in reality it was mostly because Linux is cool and I had Acer laptop with Vista and 512MB RAM, good combination… well I have to admit that personally I had no problems. But Ubuntu ran a lot faster than Vista ever. Last two years I have been using Ubuntu mostly. Occasionally testing other distros, like OpenSUSE, Mandriva and Fedora but always going back to buntu. At the beginning my desktop was Gnome (which I still like a lot), but changed sometime ago to Openbox. First I was using it with Ubuntu and Xubuntu and now with #!. Openbox attracted me because it was unshiny, very customisable and lightweight, everything I want from my desktop or rather the windowmanager.

So I guess here comes the point when I left Ubuntu and move to Ubuntu based #! and this was definitely because of Openbox. #! was exactly what I was looking for and it has been working for like an angel. Anyway I think that during the few years I have been using Linux, I have learned more than whole time I was using Windows. I think that’s fab.

Mar15 February desktop

I doubt I will stick with this whole February, but you never know. I had for a long long long time just white&black theme. White being the main colour, but I have lately started using darker themes and I quite like them.

What I got here is CrunchBang Linux 8.10.02.
