First time I listened to any podcast was about year ago. It was Linux Outlaws which I had found thru CrunchBang Linux forums. So I listened to it and it was hilarious and since then I have become somewhat addicted to podcasts. So here is list of my favourite podcasts I listen to. In case you know some really good podcast, feel free to pimp them in the comments. Oh and my podcast client of choice is gPodder.
Linux Outlaws
Let’s start from the first one, Linux Outlaws. It’s about Linux and FLOSS in general spiced with Microwatch (it’s always good to know what enemy is up to), beer, tea and passionate ranting. Hosts are German fellow called Fabsh and this guy from UK, know as Dan.
5th Race A Stargate Podcast
I’m not a scifi fan. I have seen Star Wars films, but who hasn’t. I do read sometimes scifi and I can do the Spock sign… So dammit I’m not scifi fan, you better believe it. :P Anyway one of my favourite shows is Stargate. And the 5th Race A Stargate Podcast is great podcast. In every episode hosts Justin Nolan and Tim Phillips talk about one episode of Stargate. One is big Stargate fan and one likes scifi but has never watched Stargate. This brings interesting twist in show. (How bizarre half of this paragraph was owned to assuring that I’m not scifi fan :P)
This American Life
Each episode of This American Life has one theme, which can be anything and in each episode we hear different stories around this theme. Stories are usually little weird and funny and touching too. According the site some of the stories are real and some not, for me it’s not relevant, important is that it’s entertaining and occasionally makes you to think little more.
Ubuntu UK
I love the Ubuntu UK’s style. It’s quite matter-of-fact show and the theme music is nice. Hosts are Ciemon Dunville, Alan Pope, Dave Walker, Tony Whitmore, Laura Cowen. Main subject is obviously Ubuntu but they talk also about what is going on in general around FLOSS matters.
Shot Of Jaq
Shot of Jaq is very new podcast or µ-cast or shotcast . Each episode is about 10 minutes short and purpose is to start conversation. Subjects are related to Open Source, Free Culture and technology world. So far shots have been interesting and I believe they’ll get better. I was surprised how well the short format works. I love listening to long podcasts too but this one was quite refreshing experience. Hosts Jono Bacon and Stuart Langridge were also doing the infamous LUG Radio, of which you may have heard about it.
The LottaLinuxLinks
The LottaLinuxLinks, what can I say. Dave Yates does this fairly irregularly coming show in his Honda Civic. I think there is enough reason to listen to it!
RatholeRadio
Dan Lynch (yes that same Dan from Linux Outlaws) hour long podcast RatholeRadio, that cheers up my evenings every other Sunday. He plays excellent music, and blabbers all sort of stuff between the tracks. I’d say that this is my favourite podcast.
Software Freedom Law Show
What I like about Software Freedom Laws Show, is that it’s fairly understandable even for person like me who isn’t that interested in law and its deepest details. The hosts Karen Sandler and Bradley M. Kuhn talk and interview people about legal stuff related to FLOSS.
